Cardiff’s own Mace the Great brings raw storytelling, independent spirit, and powerful live energy to The Industry Night, as he showcases his latest work ShowStoppaz. From Splott to global stages, his journey is redefining Welsh hip-hop.
Mace The Great, born Mason Burnett, is a leading voice in Cardiff’s growing hip-hop scene and a standout figure in Welsh urban music. Raised in Splott, his sound blends grime energy with reflective storytelling rooted in real experiences of working-class life, identity, and ambition.Starting young, he developed his craft in a DIY local scene with limited industry support, shaping his fiercely independent mindset.
Rather than waiting for recognition, he launched his own label, MTGM, to release music on his own terms while balancing everyday jobs. This approach defined his career and commitment toauthenticity. His 2021 EP My Side of the Bridge marked a breakthrough, followed by SplottWorld in 2023, which earned a Welsh Music Prize nomination and cemented his reputation.
Known for powerful live performances, he has appeared at major stages including Glastonbury and South by Southwest. Beyond music, he champions representation and visibility for BlackWelsh artists. Mace The Great continues to prove that artists outside traditional UK hubs can build impactful, independent careers while putting their communities on the map.
